AMAIZE-P

The recovery of nitrogen after hydrothermal carbonization for the synthesis of bio-based electrode materials for supercapacitors

Duration
01.05.2020 - 30.04.2023

Reduce, reuse, and recycle are important principles to establish a circular bioeconomy. In addition to these principles, an optimization of the current conversion technologies and a re-evaluation of its resulting wastes/co-products is equally important to convert the biomass in a sustainable bio-refinery route to functionalized materials.
As a supplementary project to the AMAIZE-P (please hyperlink AMAIZE-P), this project comes in the context of nitrogen recovery after hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) as it investigates the potential application of HTC nitrogen-rich process water as a promising nitrogen precursor for the synthesis of nitrogen-doped high-conductive carbon materials. The project aims to optimize the environmental performance of HTC, by converting the HTC process water from a waste/co-product to a valuable nitrogen precursor for the synthesis of advanced carbon materials for energy storage applications.
