The research activities of the department lie in the development of separation operations, of processes for obtaining platform chemicals, and of processes for producing and characterizing carbon materials. However, these areas cannot be completely separated from each other, since, for example, separation processes are always involved in the development of manufacturing processes for platform chemicals.
