MEDWASTE

Duration
01.06.2017 - 31.05.2020

The project aims to find a solution for sustainable energy supply in rural areas of the Mediterranean region. In this context, a carbon rich material is to be produced from different agricultural residues of the region, which can be used in direct carbon fuel cells. The whole project includes the development of one, or more, processes for the production of the high quality carbon material up to the construction of a demonstration plant. The aim of the part of the project carried out in Hohenheim is the characterization of the biogenic feedstock, the optimization of the carbonization processes with regard to the production of materials for the fuel cell, and the evaluation (LCA and LCC) of the process as well as the whole process chain.
